Nobody would ever buy a phone if it were sold this way. The vast majority of customers are non-engineers and understand it in much simpler terms: "Buy the device. Buy the plan. Dial a number. Speak to my friends." They care only for what it does for them; not how.
This blog educates about Bitcoin in the latter way, and encourages innovation in user-friendliness.
